Lyell Dean

Lyell has 23 years of field forestry and commercial experience in the Australian forestry sector. His principal fields of expertise include: operational project management; wood production planning; wood product sales for domestic and export markets; resource assessment; and forest inventory.

Lyell’s knowledge, skills and expertise have been gained from a wide cross section of project experience including: forest landscape planning and management; road design and construction; timber harvest system design; native forest silviculture; plantation establishment; forest health surveillance; fire management; environmental management; and occupational health and safety management. Lyell is a registered Forest Practices Officer (Planning), a member of Institute of Foresters Australia (IFA) and is currently in the process of becoming a member of Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) - Australia.

In 2010, Lyell launched his own forest consulting business which undertakes projects on both a stand-alone basis and also in conjunction with the MBAC Consulting Group. Prior to establishing his own business, Lyell held a range of senior operational management roles in both public and private forestry sectors.

Lyell’s latest projects include: development and project management of a private grower softwood export to SE Asia in collaboration with an exporter and forest management company; carbon assessment work under the Verified Carbon Standard; audits and certificates of compliance on behalf of the Forest Practices Authority. Lyell has worked on a project of state significance, in Tasmania (under contract with Tasmanian Irrigation Pty. Ltd.) to complete environmental assessment and planning for the proposed Midland Water Scheme.
