John Cameron
John has 36 years experience in the forest and forest products industry. In 2002 John launched his own consulting business, Cameron Consulting. This business undertakes projects on both a stand alone basis and also in conjunction with the MBAC Consulting Group.
John has undertaken a wide range of consulting projects for International Investment Funds, Paperlinx, Willmott, Plantation Timber Association of Australia, Gippsland Private Forestry Inc, Victorian Private Forestry Council, Macquarie Bank, Australian International Development Assistance Bureau, Kimberley Clark, CSR, Treecorp, and Celbi. Projects included due diligence, feasibility studies, industry analysis, strategic development, development projects, resource modelling, reviews and submissions, major contract strategies, and reviewing aid projects.
John was General Manager of Grand Ridge Plantations (GRP) and Australian Paper Plantations (APP) and held management or leadership positions at AMCOR from 1972. While managing the strategic development of Amcor's forestry, sawntimber and pulp/paper businesses achievements included developing strategic options for non-core business that resulted in the subsequent divestment of the plantation [APP] and sawntimber [B&D] businesses.
John has been a member of the board of many industry bodies including - Australian Forest and Wood Products Council; Plantation Timbers Association of Australia; Victorian Association of Forest Industries; Plantations Australia; Gippsland Private Forestry; CRC for Sustainable Production Forestry; Chairman, Southern Tree Breeding Association, Amcor White Papers Research Executive Committee; CRC for Fibre and Paper Science; Forest Research Advisory Group of the PPMFA; Wood and Fibre Research Advisory Group of CSIRO Division of Forest Products; Research Liaison Committee of CSIRO Division of Forestry; and Australian Research Working Group on Forest Genetics, including Chairman 1978 to 1981.
John was the joint principle of a Hereford stud for several years and has a strong grasp of the issues facing a wide range of industries operating in rural Australia. He holds an MBA from Monash, Diploma of Horticulture and a major in economics towards a Bachelor of Arts.
